Power+ automatically charges at the cheapest, greenest times based on the overall demand on the grid (usually overnight). You just tell us when you need it ready by and we’ll handle the rest – with no extra fees or fuss.

Once your charger’s in, register it in your Hive app to start using all its smart money-saving features.

Frequently asked questions

Which EV chargers are eligible for Power+?
If you don’t already have an EV charger, check out our Hive EV chargers which are all compatible with Power+.
Already have a charger installed? See our list of compatible EV chargers that work with Power+. We’re adding new chargers all the time – so if yours isn’t listed yet, try checking back later.
What else do I need to be eligible for Power+?
As well as having a compatible EV charger, you’ll need to be on any British Gas electricity tariff and have a working smart meter. Get your tariff here, or go here to find out how to get your free smart meter.
Does Power+ work with a time of use tariff?
Yes, Power+ works with both standard single rate and time of use tariffs (like the British Gas EV tariff) to give you full flexibility. If you’re on a time of use tariff, we’ll only ever charge your EV during your tariff’s off-peak window. That way, you’ll only charge when it’s cheapest.
I have a hybrid, will I be able to take advantage of Power+?
Yes, so long as it’s a plug-in you can still take advantage of Power+. Even if the EV only needs a small amount of charge, you’ll still get 25% off your charging costs while in Power+ mode.
Who’s in control of charging my EV when using Power+?
You’re always in control of your charging. You decide when you want your car ready by and leave Power+ to choose the cheapest and greenest times to charge it. If plans change and you need your car sooner, you always have the option to override the charging in the Hive app.

Based on our assumed efficiency conversion of 3.3 miles/kwh, savings assume that you are on the British Gas EV Power Nov26 tariff (as of 06/11/2025) and all charging is in Power+ mode in your off peak period.
