Cheaper

Charges up like a battery, using off-peak electricity to keep running cost low.¹

Greener

Powered purely by electricity, the ZEB is cleaner and greener than fossil fuel boilers.²

Simpler

No installation upheaval - it works with any tariff and your existing heating system.³

A new breed of boiler that works like a battery, the ZEB is powered by electricity. Once charged, it stores energy as heat - ready to warm your home and water. The ZEB doesn’t need any outdoor space, and it works with your existing heating system so it’s simple to use - you probably won’t even notice a difference.

Heating elements in its thermal core convert energy into heat when the ZEB is charging, then store lots of heat in a small space.

The ZEB can charge overnight when electricity is cheaper and more likely to be renewable - but release heat whenever you need it, day or night.

Using 'Smart Charging', the ZEB automatically works out when and how much to charge throughout the day. You are always in charge though and can boost or take control of charging at any time.

1. Understanding

The ZEB learns how much heat your home needs, factoring in local weather forecasts.

2. Adapting

It factors in your tariff prices, times and when the grid will be greenest to plan when to charge.

3. Adjusting

The ZEB then keeps checking and re-calculating to optimise your charging.

Hot water tank

Or space for one to be installed. You’ll also need radiators or underfloor heating - a ‘wet’ heating system.

Average energy use

That’s up to 12,000kWh of energy for your heating or hot water (or 1,100 litres of oil). Check your energy bill for an estimate of your usage.

Solid, level surface

The space where your ZEB will go needs to be accessible and ideally on the ground floor - but you can discuss this with tepeo.

The ZEB is best suited to homes with a small to medium heat demand (flats, terraces, semi-detached or newer homes) - typically with 2-4 bedrooms. But every home is unique, so book an appointment with a tepeo Energy Expert to see if the ZEB could work for you - if it is, they’ll connect you to a trusted tepeoPRO installer who’ll give you a quote. It typically costs £8,000 including VAT and installation, but this’ll be confirmed after your home survey.

  1. By drawing power during off-peak periods, the ZEB is able to charge at rates that are cheaper than a flat-rate Standard Variable Tariff for electricity, gas or the typical fuel prices for oil and LPG.

  2. The carbon intensity of electricity is significantly less than fossil fuels at 125 gCO2e/kWh vs 210gCO2e/kWh for gas. You can check a cost comparison for your home using tepeo's cost & carbon calculator available at tepeo.com/costandcarbon.

  3. The ZEB is relatively simple to install compared to other low carbon options like heat pumps, taking 1-2 days rather than 5 days for a typical heat pump installation (source: British Gas).
